Italy Hiking Tours

Alpine trails, coastal paths and ancient pilgrim routes, walked with local guides.

Why experience trekking in Italy

Italy walking tours change character with every trail. In the Dolomites, paths cross high pastures and limestone passes; farther south, routes follow volcanic slopes on Etna and Mediterranean coastlines in the Cinque Terre and on the Amalfi Coast.

Our hiking tours in Italy are built around the landscape rather than a fixed daily mileage. Local guides choose routes for the group and conditions, while transfers connect trailheads that would be difficult to combine independently.

Some itineraries make walking the focus of every day; others use shorter hikes to reach viewpoints, villages and natural sites within a wider journey through Italy. Walking tours run from late June to September in the mountains and in spring and autumn in the south.

How we experience trekking

  • Mountain trail near Tre Cime di Lavaredo

    High mountain trails

Walk beneath the pale towers of the Dolomites, linking valleys, passes and mountain huts with an experienced local guide.

  • Hikers crossing the volcanic landscape of Mount Etna

    Volcanoes and islands

In Sicily, trekking can move from volcanic terrain on Etna to sea-facing paths and the landscapes of the Aeolian Islands.

  • Coastal landscape and village in the Cinque Terre

    Routes shaped by place

Daily walks are planned around terrain, weather and the character of each region, rather than treating every landscape in the same way.

Trekking in Italy: frequently asked questions

What level of fitness do I need?
You should be comfortable walking for four to six hours with a daypack. No climbing experience is required on our standard programmes: routes follow marked trails, and a guide adjusts the day to the group.
How many kilometres do we walk each day?
Between 10 and 16 km, with 400 to 800 metres of ascent depending on the route. Cable cars are used where they save a long climb, and an easier alternative is offered on the harder days.
What equipment do I need to bring?
Boots with ankle support, layers for changing mountain weather and a daypack of 20-30 litres. Walking poles help on descents and can be arranged locally.
When is the hiking season?
June to late September in the Dolomites, spring and autumn in Sicily. Mountain huts and high trails open once the snow clears, usually from mid-June.
